| DINOSAUR PILE-UP TO PLAY COALITION ON SEPTEMBER 28TH... | 28-09-2010 |
| 'Our money's on Dinosaur Pile-Up delivering one of the best British rock debuts in recent years.' NME 'Proof that indie band's don't have to choose between noodling or landfill. As exciting as you could wish for.' The Guardian 'The perfect soundtrack to a monster collision.' Kerrang Growing Pains', the debut album from Leeds trio Dinosaur Pile-Up, will be released via Friends Vs Records this September. Growing Pains is the sound of a one of the UKs most exciting bands hitting their stride. It comes, following a handful of introductory independent releases over the past year and a bit, after which the band's frontman and creative force Matt Bigland entered Bridlington's Lodge Studios with producer James Kenosha to record the debut, taking place over January and February this year. The result is a storming rock powerhouse of big pop songs driven by the kind of wall shaking undercurrent only a three piece can muster. Bigland says of the album: "I know it sounds bent but I liked the idea of people to be able to sing along to the songs, even if they were singing about being hated or upset. I wanted to make a record that kicks people in the face whilst getting stuck in their head." Their career to date was led by the January 2009 debut 7" single My Rock N Roll, followed by a second single Traynor, and last year's summer release, modestly titled The Most Powerful EP In The Universe - which spawned songs such as Summer Hit Single, Beach Bug and Cat Attack. Their live plot to date has seen them tour with a rich cast of bands including a UK/European jaunt with the Pixies in December, and a French tour with Violens for the coveted Les Inrocks tour last Spring. On the festival circuit the band has shared stages with Crooked Vultures on the Radio One tent at last year's Reading and Leeds festivals, and they headline NME's Halloween spectacular at Koko last October. Elsewhere they have performed alongside Future Of The Left, Pulled Apart By Horses and The Automatic, and last summer stormed the festival circuit performing at Bestival, Oxegen, T In The Park, and aforementioned Reading and Leeds festivals. | Babyhead to play Coalition this September... | 17-09-2010 |

After two years in the lab reworking their sound, and newly signed to reggae label Rockers Revolt, Bristol's bastard sons Babyhead are back out on the road with full horn section, to deliver their extraordinary and energetic live show. | SEBASTIEN LEGER TO PLAY COALITION... | 31-07-2010 |
| Sebastien Leger will be appearing in Brighton on 31st July, to play a much anticipated night at Brighton’s ‘Coalition’. Sebastien Leger begins 2010 in fine form. His label, Mistakes, has further strengthened his role as one of Europe’s leading proponents of contemporary underground techno. The antithesis of the showman that is fellow countryman, David Guetta, Leger mines a wholly different vein, updating the rich musical histories of Detroit and Chicago with a quiet determination and no-nonsense approach. His much lauded musical ability stems from a classical background, but formal training is but one half of the story; having served his ‘apprenticeship’ in clubs around France in his teens. The 1990’s saw the first explosion of French dance music culture, and as a young producer and DJ, he saw his heroes such as Laurent Garnier, Daft Punk, and Etienne De Crecy, begin to carve out a distinctive new wave of electronic music. He began producing at the end of that decade, and though surrounded with French filter house, he looked across the Atlantic for his own inspiration, with Underground Resistance, Derrick May, and Juan Atkins being a few prime examples. Heritage techno might be an influence, but it’s a mere reference point for Sebastian’s productions and the output from his label, as he’s always made technology dance to his very own, distinct tune. Leger is thoroughly 21stcentury in his delivery and execution, packing a punch that has seen Mistakes become a best-seller on Beatport, and an imprint that is defining a new sound away from the soulless beats and clicks of minimal. Tracks such as ‘Binola’, The White Island’, and ‘The Rhythm’, lie at the funkier end of the techno scale, throbbing and coursing with a proudly European sensibility; but regional influences aside, the reception to Leger’s recorded output ensures his popularity remains truly global. Over 50 Eps for labels including Black Jack, Ovum, Intec, Pryda, and beyond, make for an enviable discography, but as the cliché goes, you’re as good as your last record, and Leger has always kept the bar high despite a prolific release schedule. His latest remix, for Cirez D’s ‘On/Off’ on Mouseville, shows that he doesn’t just keep his best ideas for himself. Leger has consistently pushed his production boundaries and adapted himself to the sounds and technology around him. Despite his more cerebral sound of late, he brings to proceedings a dancefloor sensibility that is all about the ‘funk’, injected with a heart and soul attitude that means his music is never clinical. In addition to his studio exploits, a busy DJ diary means gigs across the planet, from Germany to Japan, the UK to Ibiza, and the US to Asia. It’s a schedule that means Sebastien remains at the forefront of modern EDM, taking his music to wherever dance culture shines brightest. Sat 31st July 2010 Doors 11pm - 4am Limited online advance tickets £8 from ticketweb.co.uk |

| THE BAMBOOS & BELLERUCHE @ COALITION | 04-06-2010 |
| It is with great pleasure that we announce this co-headline show for two of Tru Thoughts’ finest acts – The Bamboos & Belleruche. Coming all the way from Melbourne Australia The Bamboos are the masters of raw, heavy funk. Exploding onto the scene in the early 2000s, they have cultivated a unique sound taking all the heavy elements of deep funk/soul & blending it with an irresistible pop sensibility & a respect for the classic song form. Their new album ‘4’, released in March ‘10, yet again bowled over the critics, with support from the likes of Mark Lamarr, Craig Charles, Pathaan, Laurent Garnier and X-Press 2’s Ashley Beedle. “Loaded with brass exclamations and soul brandishing vocals…their uncompromising sound still flourishes as they delve into the worlds of reggae, hip hop and pop” – iDJ Magazine Co-headlining this beast of a line up will be Belleruche whose second album ‘The Express’ hit Number 1 in the iTunes Electronic album chart in late 2008 - the lead single “Anything You Want (Not That)” was given the prestigious accolade of iTunes Single Of The Week with over 50,000 downloads. They've recently taken up digs in a subterranean Hackney studio, christened the Cave, where riffs, beats & ideas are bubbling to the surface for their heavily anticipated third album of blues & turntable soul. The Liberty EP, released March ’10, gave a sneak preview into this longplayer, whilst also serving as the perfect reminder of the beauty of their craft with select remixes & acoustic versions of classic Belleruche material. With heavyweight DJ support from Tru Thoughts A&R Robert Luis, multi-talented instrumentalist & producer Flevans, Bamboos head honcho Lanu and a DJ / PA performance by Beta Hector & Dionne Charles (of adored UK funk band Baby Charles) whose new single ‘Pay Back’ features on the forthcoming Tru Thoughts Funk compilation. |

| RODIGAN & THE NEXTMEN | 09-04-2010 |
| Not many 58-year-olds are DJing at Coalition this month – but then, not many 58-year olds juggle dubplates like “gentleman rudeboy”, David Rodigan. First playing dances aged just 15, and hosting a show on Capitol from 1979, the man is today established as a genuine legend; in the words of Horace Andy: Don’t think about Rodigan, he’s alright. He’s playing the Coalition on April 9th, alongside production/remix powerhouse The Nextmen, who have worked with everyone from Public Enemy to Corinne Bailey Rae. | |
| VITALIC LIVE @ COALITION | 18-03-2010 |
| We can exclusively announce that electro-techno legend VITALIC is returning to Brighton for the first time since 2007, with a brand new live show in support of his massively acclaimed new album FLASHMOB. Along with the artists such as Miss Kitten & The Hacker, DJ Hell, and Felix Da Housecat, Vitalic emerged at the start of the decade and was quickly recognised as one of the leading lights of the revolutionary electroclash scene. Responsible for the global smash ‘La Rock 01’ – a bona fide techno anthem which was caned everywhere from underground parties to major festivals, national radio playlists and even a number of rock compilations - Vitalic went on to release one of the decade’s defining albums, ‘OK Cowboy’, in 2005. Crossing the barriers between searing techno, buzzing electro and all out rock heaviness, his distinctive turbo-powered style proved a major influence on the likes of Justice and the Ed Banger label. Vitalic spent the next few years extensively touring the globe, headlining everywhere from Sonar to Reading. In 2009, his long-awaited second album, ‘Flashmob’ was released, revealing a startling fusion of disco and synthpop elements alongside Vitalic’s patented nuclear electronics. A major critical and commercial success, it featured in numerous end-of-year charts, and heralded the start of a major world tour in support of the album. With some very special support TBA, this electro legend’s return to Brighton is not to be missed... | STOP PRESS! PHENOMENAL HANDCLAP BAND @ COALITION, 12.03.10 | 12-03-2010 |
| We’re hugely excited to announce the live debut of the massively acclaimed PHENOMENAL HANDCLAP BAND in Brighton. The Phenomenal Handclap Band is a tight-knit aggregation of musicians and artists from Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. At the center of it is Daniel Collás and Sean Marquand who, joined by their supremely talented friends Patrick Wood, Nicholas Movshon, Luke O'Malley, Laura Marin, Bing Ji Ling, Pier Pappalardo and Joan Tick. The collective started when Collás and Marquand, two New York underground club DJs, became restless with the concept of playing other people's music. Both had also been involved in the thriving nightlife scene, and had an almost encyclopedic knowledge of esoteric music ranging from Brazilian soul to vintage psych-rock, so becoming producers seemed to be the next logical step. After working with a wide range of artists, from veteran soul acts to up-and-coming rock n' rollers, the duo set their sights on The Phenomenal Handclap Band, a collective comprised of various luminaries of the indie rock and underground soul scenes. The resulting self-titled debut (which boasts guest appearances by Aurelio Valle, Carol C, Jaleel Bunton, Bart Davenport, Jon Spencer, and Lady Tigra) is equal parts anthemic, dancefloor-oriented and orchestral, borrowing elements from progressive rock, disco, electro, and psychedelia. Live, The Phenomenal Handclap Band is distilled to an eight-member powerhouse, an eye-popping spectacle that overwhelms the senses. It pulses with a savage rhythm section that provides the ultimate foil for cascading guitars and electrified washes of organ and synthesizers. Their delirious sermonizing whips crowds into a charismatic frenzy. Needless to say, their live shows are more akin to a spiritual church revival than an actual rock show. *** 'TPHB's Tardis of a debut encapsulates the nostalgic elements of ESG, ELO, Tom Tom Club, The Doors and Sly And The Family Stone, applies a gloss of New York cool and then re-packages it with the modern production of the LCD soundsystem, CSS and Beck variety. Forget the handclap, they'll take a standing ovation.' Album Review = 8 - NME 'Musically diverse, incredibly melodic and dance-floor ready. It’s the kind of album that gives cookiecutter pop the trashing it deserves.' – New York Post 'The PHB are astronauts of progressive soul, moored at the stellar point where rock, funk and psychedelia bloom into cosmic-disco amazingness.' - Guardian 'With their multitudinous influences, blending funk, soul, reggae, dance, hip-hop and Brazilian beat, as well as rock, disco and electro, they encapsulate the spirit of the Brooklyn underground.' - The Sunday Times Culture 10PM-3AM @ Coalition, Brighton Tickets available at Rounder, Resident and wegottickets For further press info contact lee@channel23.org.uk |

| LITTLE DRAGON - WEDNESDAY 3rd MARCH @ COALITION | 03-03-2010 |
| Following their sell-out gig at Jam last December, we’re hugely excited to announce Little Dragon’s return to Brighton. In the last year, Little Dragon have emerged from their Swedish homeland to become one of the most talked-about acts around, working with Jose Gonzalez , and collaborating on two tracks for Gorrilaz’ forthcoming third album. Little Dragon returned last summer with a spectacular second album offering on the legendary Peacefrog label, a pulsating electro pop epic that Prince would be proud of (only fronted by a beautiful Swedish lady with a sultry voice). A bold and surprising side/two step onwards from their self titled debut, Machine Dreams, with its nagging hooks and gloriously infectious tunes, has seen the band break out into the mainstream. Having toured relentlessly since the last record, Little Dragon have found themselves to be very popular in the US, specifically on the West coast. The track ‘Twice’ even got played on hit US show Grey’s Anatomy, and eventually the band were brought to the attention of David Sitek who became an instant fan (as did notorious basement dweller DJ Shadow) and asked them to support TV On The Radio on their US tour in May 2009. With disparate influences from Depeche Mode to Prince, LCD Soundsystem to James Holden, Dancehall to R&B, Jazz and Soul, Little Dragon take their place among artists who straddle many genres, yet somehow create their own and in doing so create “sounds that make time stop” (Yukimi). Futuristic yet somehow retro, Machine Dreams sees Little Dragon achieve something timeless; that elusive pop classic. Praise for Little Dragon’s debut: “Brilliant debut album of minimalistic, parallel-universe soul music… Clever, sexy and addictive” 4/5 Mojo “Gorgeous, heartbreaking piano balladry” Metro “The music on Little Dragon’s wonderful eponymous debut album is beguilingly mysterious mix of soul, pop, jazz, electronica and R&B… Little Dragon are very, very cool but they’ll keep you warm.” Sunday Times “A fine debut, Little Dragon deserves a roar of approval” Word “This will be an album you’ll keep coming back to” 4/5 i-DJ “A delicious debut… buy this or be bored by music” 4/5 Touch Magazine “Slick, understated and gorgeous” Fact “An original and refreshing blend of the current with classic sensibilities” Clash Doors 7pm £7 adv tickets from Rounder, Resident, WeGotTickets, Seetickets. | We’re hugely excited to announce a very special gig from none other than Fatboy Slim at Coalition, in what will surely be THE Brighton party of this festive season – so snap up the limited tickets while you can... Following Fatboy’s now-legendary secret gig for Oxjam at Jam in October, we’ve managed to persuade the man himself to throw a party at Coalition, along with DJ sets from some special guests from Norman's own label, Southernfried Records. | NNEKA COMES TO TOWN | 28-11-2009 |
| Victim Of Truth, the 2006 album from singer-songwriter Nneka, was declared “as good as The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” by the Sunday Times – although by that time the Nigeria-born artist had already supported Gnarls Barkley, Sean Paul and Femi Kuti. Now the woman dubbed “soul queen in the making” by Blues & Soul magazine comes to Brighton, playing the Coalition on Novermber 28th. | |
| NEW BAR UNVEILED | 28-10-2009 |
| No more queues at Coalition: the venue has just unveiled an extra bar area, thanks to a newly developed side room. It takes their bar count to a grand total of three. |

| MERCURY MUSIC WINNER @ COALITION | 08-10-2009 |
| The Mercury Prize may have made a few mistakes over the years – M People, anyone? – but it still remains far and away the most prestigious music award in the UK. And this year’s winner, Speech Debelle, is a thoroughly deserving one: the London MC draws on folk and jazz as much as hip-hop, to create a genuinely fresh synthesis described by one judge as “a rap record which doesn’t sound like a rap record”. The album, Speech Therapy, had previously sold just 3,000 copies, yet beat off the likes of Florence And The Machine, Kasabian and La Roux to win the £20,000 prize. Anyway, the good news for Brighton residents is that she’s performing at Coalition on October 8th, with support from new Ninja Tune signings Grasscut. | |
| STOP PRESS - FAITHLESS LIVE AT COALITION | 02-10-2009 |

Other acts performing at the event, which is spread across five venues including Life, include Wiley and Krafty Kuts and beatboxer Killa Kela. | |
